Out of Nowhere up The Junction

????: Lead Vocals, Guitar
Nick Grant: Backing Vocals, Bass
Jez Arnold (aka 'Stranski'): Keyboards
Matt Johnson: Drums

The roots of the band were formed in the early 1980's by two important Cambridge bands, Subculture - a street punk band (Phil Parker on bass, Matt on drums) and Freedom Faction - a popular punk band (Nick on bass). Subculture split in 1983 due to the increased right wing association with working class punk. Probably best not to mention La Voix, the power popsters that had Matt on drums and Stranski on keys. The band members took a sabbatical to do grown up things, like have kids.

Their influences are many, including The Clash, The Stranglers, and all good old school punk. They have been striving over recent months to get their presence known on the live music arena in Cambridge. They have successfully put together a monthly punk club, 'Viva La Punk' at the Cellar Bar 8, Cambridge, the first of which happened on the 19th October 2006. The headliner being Wreckless Eric with Amy Rigby, with Out Of Nowhere on first, along with a DJ Lez playing classic Punk and Ska numbers. 'The first punk night really set the scene for the future nights, as it helped us realise what we needed to make the night one to remember.' There have been other awesome punk nights with The Lurkers, Dustins Bar Mitzvah, 999, Subhumans, UK Subs, all getting the Cellar Bar buzzin.

Here's a review of our gig at Alan McGee's 'Now I'm off to Rehab' club in London on 7.10.06, from londonnet.co.uk: "Next on were pleasantly old-school Out of Nowhere. Though OoN's vocal and guitar styling was barely discernable to the punk of the 1970s, the seemingly-bizarre addition of a keyboard to the mix turned out to be a boon, lending a rumble and hum to their songs that fits well with the mood. A classic punk sound.
